How to manage translations on Ecosia
This article outlines how to use Ecosia's translation features and language settings on Android, iOS, and the Ecosia Browser to enhance your browsing experience.

How to set the language of Ecosia Apps and Ecosia Browser
On Android
- Open the Ecosia app.
- Go to Menu > Settings > Languages.
- Select your preferred language for the app interface and website content.
- If possible, websites will be displayed in your chosen language.
On iOS
We use device settings to display the app language.
- Open Settings on your iPhone/iPad.
- Go to General > Language & Region.
- Set your preferred language. The Ecosia app will follow your system language if available.
On Ecosia Browser for desktop
- The overall language is set within your device settings.
- The Ecosia Browser will follow your system language.
How to set a preferred website language
On Android
- Open the Ecosia app.
- Go to Menu > Settings > Languages.
- Select your preferred language for website content.
- If possible, websites will show languages in your one of the selected languages.
On iOS
We use device settings to tell websites in which the user is browsing what is their preferred language. Currently it is not possible to individually set a preferred website langue within the Ecosia App.
On iOS you can also translate directly within the app:
- Open any website and select a sentence or word which you want the translation for
- Long press > Translate
On Ecosia Browser for desktop
To manage website language settings on Ecosia Browser:
- Open Ecosia Browser Menu > Settings > Language
- You can set your preferred website language, spell check and automatic translations for other languages.
To manage translations on a website.
- Visit a website in a foreign language.
- A translation prompt should appear automatically.
- If not, right-click on 3 dots in the right corner > Translate...> select Translate to [your language].
How to search for word translations with Ecosia
Ecosia Search offers an instant translation. Depending on the selected search provider, either Google Translations or Bing Translations are shown.
