Installing Ecosia on your mobile device

On your mobile device, you can use Ecosia in one of two ways. You can either directly download Ecosia’s own app from the respective app stores, or you can usually set it up on your favorite browser. Follow the instructions below and make your searches turn into climate impact!

Download the Ecosia mobile apps

Download the Ecosia iOS app & set it as your default

1. Search for Ecosia on the App Store, which comes pre-installed on every iOS device. Alternatively, access Ecosia’s App Store page directly by clicking on this link.  
2. Once on the page, click on “GET”. Once the app is downloaded, you can then follow the onboarding instructions when you open the app for the first time!

Optional - Set the Ecosia iOS app as your default

You may optionally choose to define the Ecosia iOS app as your default. This means that when you click on web links outside of the app, for example, in your email inbox, that link will open in Ecosia.

1. Open the Settings app on your device
2. Scroll all the way down until you see Ecosia. Click on it.
3. Click on Default Browser App. Select Ecosia
4. Ecosia is now your default browser!

Download the Ecosia Android app & set it as your default

1. Search for Ecosia on the Play Store application, which comes pre-installed on every Android device. Alternatively, access Ecosia’s Play Store page directly by clicking on this link.  
2. Once on the page, click on “Install”. Once the app is downloaded, you can then follow the onboarding instructions when you open the app for the first time!

Optional - Set the Ecosia Android app as your default

You may optionally choose to define the Ecosia Android app as your default. This means that when you click on web links outside of the app, for example, in your email inbox, that link will open in Ecosia. 

1. Open the Ecosia app
2. Click on the three dots at the top right. Click on Settings
3. You should see an option called Set Ecosia as Default Browser. Click on it.
4. In the next menu that appears, click on Ecosia, then on SET AS DEFAULT
5. Ecosia is now your default browser!

Set Ecosia on other browsers

Set Ecosia as your default search engine on Safari (iOS)

1. Open the Settings app on your iOS device
2. Scroll down until you see Safari. Click on it.
3. Click on Search Engine. Select Ecosia
4. Ecosia is now your default search engine on Safari!

Set Ecosia as your default search engine on Chrome (Android)

1. Open the Chrome app on your Android device
2. Click on the three dots at the top right of the screen
3. Click on Settings
4. Under Basics, click on Search Engine
5. Select Ecosia
6. Ecosia is now your default search engine on Chrome!

Set Ecosia as your default search engine on Brave (Android)

1. Open the Brave app on your Android device
2. Click on the three dots 
3. Click on Settings
4. Under General, click on Search engines
5. Click on Standard Tab. Select Ecosia. (You may alternatively also set Private Tab to Ecosia for all incognito navigation to happen through Ecosia)
6. Ecosia is now your default search engine on Brave!

Set Ecosia as your default homepage on other browsers

Your favorite browser isn’t listed above? Don’t worry, you can still use Ecosia. On other browsers, you usually have the option to define a new homepage by default. All you have to do is enter https://www.ecosia.org in that setting.
