How to change the new tab page on Chrome

This article explains how to set Ecosia as your new tab page or customize your new tab page with a Chrome theme.

What is the new tab page?

The new tab page is the page you see when you open a new tab. From here you can search Ecosia or navigate to your most frequently visited websites.

Why don't I see the Ecosia new tab page?

Making Ecosia your default search engine in Chrome will automatically set Ecosia as your new tab page. Click here to find out how to make Ecosia your default search engine in Chrome

If your new tab page is not displaying like the screenshot above, you will need to set Chrome’s color and theme to default.

Set the default color

  1. Go to Chrome settings
  2. Select You and Google
  3. Select Customize your Chrome profile
  4. Select the default color

  1. Go to Chrome settings
  2. Select Appearance
  3. Select Theme 
  4. Click Reset to default

How to customize the new tab page with a Chrome theme 

You can now customize your new tab page in Chrome by adding a theme.

You can download Chrome themes from the Chrome Webstore, for example, Under the Leaf. 

Once you’ve found a theme you like click “Add to Chrome”

You can always change your theme from Chrome’s settings under "Appearance”.

If you want to change your new tab page back to the Ecosia new tab page, simply select “Reset to default”.

If you do not wish to see the tree counter ticking upwards on your new tab page, setting a Chrome theme will hide it.
