The global counter
The global tree counter on Ecosia.org shows how many trees we have planted and expect to survive for more than three years.
Here’s how it works.
When we sign a contract with a planting partner, we agree on how many trees will be planted, and how many of these are expected to survive beyond three years. We then add this number to the tree counter on our home page.
Three years after planting, trees are monitored, and the counter is adjusted to the real number of trees we found thriving on the ground.
We adjust the speed of the tree counter occasionally to make sure it accurately reflects the number of trees. It also has a buffer to make sure we never overcount our trees.
Thanks to your searches, our tree counter is currently ticking up every 1.3 seconds!
